Brahmacharini Kamala Bai joined Sri Mahavir Mumuksha Mahila Ashram-an orphanage for ladies and not only educated herself but acquired knowledge about Indian scriptures, history and culture. Having equipped herself with knowledge and learning, Brahmacharini Ji started her own Adarsh Mahila Vidyalaya with barely 6 girl students from vulnerable sections of society in 1953. This school today has a strength of 1800 girl students, mostly from backward and tribal segments of the society. In 1956, Brahamacaharini Ji started a girl's hostel with barely 36 inmates. The number of hostelries today is above 550. Brahmacharini Kamala Bai has successfully motivated several philanthropists to donate liberally for the construction of school and hostel buildings and equipments necessary for imparting education. Nearly rupees two crores have already been spent for the above purpose, so far. These projects have an annual budget of nearly 65 lakhs which is collected through donations. Students of this school have throughout been showing excellent results, often finding place in merit lists also. Brahmacharini kamala Bai has started B.Ed., S.T.C classes for teachers to prepare them for spreading literacy and education. Several vocational training coursers have also been introduced, so that the girls may ultimately support themselves economically. Recently, land measuring 50 acres has been acquired to provide latest job-oriented modern facilities for imparting training in different vocations, viz., tailoring, handicrafts, computers etc. The projects which have already started taking shape are likely to cost around Rs. 10 crores. Brahmacharini Ji has been honored by government and several voluntary organizations many times for her extraordinary and outstanding contribution towards removal of illiteracy, more specially in rural and tribal areas.
