Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahahyta
Samiti is a registered body under the Societies Act working since the year 1975
for the welfare of the handicapped people both in India and abroad. It is also
engaged in the rehabilitation of women by providing them self-employment through
its women cell, “SAMBAL”.
Sambal was started at the
inspiration of Hon’ble Shri D. R. Mehta (Chairman, SEBI), to help women in
distress, particularly, widows, divorcee/deserted etc. in rural areas who need
the economic support for self-employment. In the very first year of its
establishment, 27 women were given financial help for self-employment. Financial
help is received through donations, interest of reserve funds and collection of
loan installments. Prior to 1993, entire amount given as grant-in-aid. Later,
the aid is given partly as loan without interest and partly as grant-in-aid. The
collected loan installments are utilized for the installation of huts, providing
medical and educational facilities of rural women. Income tax rebate under
sec. 80G of the Income Tax Act is available on the donations received by the
Society.
The help provided is mostly in the form of equipment needed by the beneficiary
for undertaking self-employment, such as sewing machines, flour mills,
embroidery machines, umbrella-making machines, biscuit-making equipment, Rakhi
preparation, leather work, Dal mill, steel utensils etc. In each case, monetary
help up to Rs. 10,000/- is made available. Grant and aid programmes are arranged
for 25 to 200 women with the support of donors from time to time. With the help
of Rajasthan Mitra Parishad 23 women were given self-employment in Delhi in the
presence of Deputy Governor, Hon’ble Shri Arjun Singh. Till date, 4504 needy
women have been benefited by this programme for which an amount of Rs. 55.5
lakhs has been spent. SAMBAL also helps women in forming money saving groups,
provides education and training centers for young girls, tailoring, embroidery
and Rexene centers, leather shoes manufacturing center and further offers
cottage industry schemes.
The institution is being looked after by Smt. Kalpana Singhi as Chairperson and
Smt. Sushila Bohra as Hon. Secretary.
