Lt. General Har Prasad (1917 - 1980)
An illustrious officer of Indian Army the late Lt. General Har Prasad was born at Allahabad in 1917. His father late Shri Jagat Prasad Jain C. I. E retired as Deputy Auditor General in 1934 and was thereafter Accountant General and Financial Adviser in J & K State. He was a highly respected social figure of Delhi.
Lt. General Har Prasad qualified from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and joined the Indian Army in 1939 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was on active service in the Middle East during the Second World War. He distinguished himself as an administrator of high merit. In 1969, he rose to the high rank of Vice-Chief of the Army Staff. He was awarded "Param Vishist Sewa Medal" in 1972 for rendering meritorious services during the Bangladesh Operations. He was a Lt. General when he retired in 1973. Thereafter he settled at New Delhi. He expired on June 23, 1980.
He was married to Smt. Shobha Mani younger sister of Smt. Lila Mani, wife of Maj. General Niranjan Prasad, and has left two daughters Smt. Aruna Jhala and Smt. Anuradha Kumar.
