Mundra Jain Tirth - Bh. Mahavir

Kutch, Gujarat

This temple located at Village Bhadreshwar on sea shore, 39 Kilometers from Gandhidham Railway Station. The place used to be large flourishing town in ancient period, known at that time as Bhadravati Nagari. The idol in the temple is supposed  to have been installed 45 years after the nirvana of Shri Mahaveer Swami by Kevali Kapil Muni.

News - Ahimsa Times - September, 2002. The temple of Bhadreshwar has recently been completely demolished because the structure had been rendered unsafe due to the extensive damage from last January 2001 earthquake. The main temple, which was nearly 2,500 Years Old, used to attract people from all over the country. "It is shocking not only for Jains but everybody in Kutch," says Vanechand Mulchand Doshi, the Manager of the Seth Vardhman Kalyanji Trust, which manages the Bhadreshwar Temple. The demolition work has been completed and temporary arrangement has been made from where pilgrims can have darshan of Mool Nayak Bhagwan Mahaveer and Bhagwan Parashwa Nath. It is reported that over 146 icons, most of them, 500 years to 2500 years old could however be saved from damage. Despite the fact that the temple does not exist anymore now, pilgrims have been visiting the place from across the country for darshan and worship. The Bhadreshwar Temple Managing Committee has taken up the project to reconstruct the Temple as early as possible.
