Digamber Tirth - Bh. Vimalnath 

 

 

History of Vimalnath Digamber Jain Tirth Kshetra : According to history Kampil was the capital of Panchal King Drupad and birth place of Draupadi of Mahabharata. She got married here to Arjuna by the process of Swayamwara. After the great war of Kurukshetra, Kampil became the centre of spiritual knowledge and education. Kampil was also the place of Garbha, Janma, Tup and Gyan Kalyanaka of Lord Vimalnath, the 13th Jain Tirthankara. The10th Chakravarti Shri Harishen and 12th Chakravarti Shri Brahmadatta were born here. They ruled from this place. Bhagwan Rishabh Dev had established 52 districts or Janapadas at that time. During the time of Lord Mahavira overall there were 16 Mahajanapada and Panchal Janapada was one of them. As per the holy books of the Jains the Samavsharan of Bhagwan Adinath, Lord Parshvanatha and Lord Mahavira came here. Thus Kampil is regarded as sacred place of India.

Temple of Vimalnath Digamber Jain Tirth Kshetra : The Temple of Vimalnath Digamber Jain Tirth Kshetra is very ancient and dates back to V. S. 492. It is located in the North-West part of Kampil City and has been constructed on a 10 feet high platform. The temple is almost 1500 years old and is dedicated to Lord Vimalnath. The idol is 2 feet in height and is seated in a padmasana posture. It is said to be more than 2500 years old and has been beautifully carved in black colour. The idol is believed to have been recovered from Ganga River. The temple is adorned with sky high spire that has been carved artistically. Many other idols are also installed here that are worth seeing.

Apart from this there are many other temples located here. A hillock, Aghatia Teela is situated here. It is said that Lord Vimalnath attained super natural knowledge or Kevalgyan here. This hillock was dug and many Digambara Jain idols were discovered from here. An old dilapidated pond can also be here. It is known as Dropadi Kund. The temple organizes annual gatherings. An annual Festival is celebrated from Chaitra Krishna to Chaitra Shukla. Another annual festival is also organized in Ashwin Krishna. Vimalnath Digambar Jain Tirth Kshetra has provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims. Guest house from the Tourism Department is also available. The temple is well connected to road, rail and air.

Busses are available from Delhi, Agra, Farrukhabad, Kayamganj Aligarh, Etah. Tempo, Taxi and Tonga are easily available for Kampil. Kayamganj is the Nearest Railway Station. The other stations are Agra, Mathura, Hathras and Kanpur. The nearest airport is situated in Kanpur, Agra.
